PERFECTLY IMPERFECT: THE HANDCRAFTED SOUL OF İKİKIZ
Block printing, the printing technique that İKİKIZ has preferred since its first collections, takes its place in the collection this season with different styles as well. This technique, which sometimes appears in details and sometimes takes the leading role, is not just a pattern application method but also part of the brand's production philosophy. Finding its own place in the SS'25 collection, this technique represents a value-oriented choice in İKİKIZ's production processes, as much as it is aesthetic.
Block printing is a traditional patterning method created by pressing hand-carved wooden blocks onto fabric one by one. These prints cannot be replicated by machines; they are applied entirely by hand, and therefore each print carries very small differences from one another. This is precisely why no piece is exactly identical to another.
These differences, which could be considered "flaws" in traditional production techniques, are among the details that form the character of the collection for İKİKIZ. Because for us, perfection is not repeatability; it's being able to leave a mark. The small variations that each print carries add uniqueness to the product. A shift seen on the fabric, the pattern appearing lighter or darker, or the print boundaries not being distinct—all of these are signs that human hands truly exist in production. For us, these are not flaws; they are traces of craftsmanship.
Our turn to hand printing has not only aesthetic but also sustainability-based reasons. Block printing is a technique that can be applied with minimum chemical and energy use, producing low waste. In this process where we work together with local craftspeople, we try to make not only the design but also the production method more conscious. Every product that emerges from this production method becomes not just a garment, but part of a slower, more careful, and more personal fashion.
This is why every pattern at İKİKIZ doesn't look the same. They don't have to be the same either.
